'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game ended with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles after the on-field celebration.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from outside the box, and the defender promptly slammed home the loose ball before racing off toward the home end to mark the goal, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This capped an unbelievable recovery given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the latter period. Amid the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result secured a fourth-round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after the team changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way Orient approached the match.

City's Quality

"Physically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they understand how to control and slow down a game. You can believe you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It requires a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across two seasons at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without much intensity. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including home and away fixtures against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This represents quite the ride for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was sealed owing to conditions of -15C. "This represented a long trip and it was chilly," he recalls, grinning. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called player transport, a small coach driven by academy staff, the drivers, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself a teammate, Ronald, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm aiming to be the next one out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on the Tube after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
